Buzz
Lightyear, as you may recall, is the character from the
'Toy Story' animated movies -- the space ranger guy who
goes to 'Infinity and Beyond.' The Buzz Lightyear ride is
built in Tomorrowland in what used to be the CircleVision360
theater. More recently, this same building was the queue
area for Rocket Rods, and a museum exhibit about space exploration.
Buzz
Lightyear has similar attractions in Walt Disney World and
Tokyo Disneyland. The three of us visited Buzz in Florida,
and although Megan and Dianne had good memories of it, I
felt more like it was a nice re-do of the previous 'If You
Had Wings' and 'Delta Dreamflight' that were part of the
WDW Tomorrowland over the years.

Here
in Disneyland, by the time we reached Tomorrowland, a small
line had developed. The queue wound around the outside of
the building, [below] near the main entrance of Tomorrowland
and then up toward Ariel's Grotto. Although the sign posted
the wait time as 30 minutes, we were inside the building
in about 5 minutes, and on the ride in another 5 minutes.

Inside,
[above] the queue is very intense and vibrant, using
the bright purple, lime green, red and yellow colors that
make up Buzz's space suit. A large sized Buzz Lightyear
Audio Animatronic [below], with the help of an Etch-a-Sketch
that draws for him, explains that we need to defeat the
evil Emperor Zurg.

Once
we board our OmniMover vehicles [above], we ride
through black lit, simply animated flourescent sets. Like
a shooting gallery. And that's the gimmick here. Little
toy rayguns are attached to your ride vehicle and you get
to shoot at targets throughout the ride. Scores are tallied
and at the end, after defeating Zurg, you get to compare
your scores with your friends, family, and fellow guests.
