Welcome to our first installation of Museum Madness 2002

While we certainly don't consider ourselves experts or intellectuals of the Art world, we do have a working appreciation for art, and have a farily decent knowledge of artists. We could probably pick out a Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Picasso, Klee, Pollock, Calder, Lichtenstein, Warhol and Hopper and tell you approximately when they lived and worked.

Impressive, right?

Our goal is to take in the museums without burning out -- either ourselves or our daughter. For our readers, we hope to present each trip as it happens, giving you as much of the experience as we can. Included in each report will be admission costs, gift shop review, and some sort of commentary from each of us. So here we go.

"When you think about it, department stores are kind of like museums"
-- Andy Warhol

6-21-02: The first day of summer in Southern California was overcast and a bit chilly, which added a bizarre backdrop to a most intriguing day - a trip to The Museum of Contemporary Art [MOCA] to check out the Andy Warhol exhibit. I'll warn you, I was a bit crabby today, but here it goes.

Any trip into downtown Los Angeles is pretty intense, but directions that I got on the Internet were pretty good. Still, I got lost once, and turned in to what I thought was the correct parking lot. The attendant said 'you don't want to park here it's too expensive' so we headed for another, apparently cheaper lot.

It was $11.00. Welcome to downtown LA. I'm crabby. But we were close to the museum. We walked up a flight of stairs, and right to the entrance of MOCA. [pronounced Mocha].
