November
26, 2003 - San Diego, CA
Sometimes,
no matter how hard we try, trips don't pan out as we imagine.
And so will be our remembrance for Thanksgiving 2003 in
San Diego. We tried to stay easy-going and light-on-our-feet
for a little holiday excursion, but it just didn't quite
happen.
San
Diego has a laid-back atmosphere, great weather, a group
of fun attractions, and seemed perfect for a spontaneous
Thanksgiving getaway. It was 70 degrees and sunny, we
got a $64 a night Priceline rate at Holiday Inn by the
Bay, and our goal was to take a closer look at Balboa
Park and the 15 museums there.
Sounds
like a fun time, right? Somehow it didn't come together.
We
felt stuck. As if we were slogging through knee deep mud.
Like we had been asked to remain seated and couldn't get
up.
And
if not for the work of a late French sculptor, we might
still be sitting in the Gas Lamp District in a holiday
funk.
